Steady

Every moment is a chance to practice being our best Self.

Every moment is a chance to be balanced and steady.

It’s easy when the woman at the front of the long line at the bank gives you her spot because she remembers how it is to have two screaming kids. It’s not easy when you end up standing next to a different woman who can barely hold in her contempt.

It’s easy when the cashier at grocery store gives your wild kids stickers so you can finish paying. It’s not easy when a man in a half-empty parking lot honks at you because he thinks you are taking too long with your kids and wants your first-row spot.

How other people act is beyond my control. How I react and respond is entirely within my control.

Human beings I meet each day: it’s not you, it’s me.

I can choose to stay steady in my Self. I can choose to take what serves me and release what may be toxic with each interaction.

Steady. It takes practice. I’m not always my best – I apologize often. I fall on my face and get back up again. At least I’m trying.

So thank you, humankind. Thank you for your kindness, your shade, your helping hands, your thievery, your compassion, your support, and your dishonesty. Thank you for all of it.

Every moment is full of possibility.

Every moment is a chance to be balanced and steady.

Every moment is a chance to practice being our best Self.
